Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Should I paint over mold?
Answer: No. Don't paint or caulk over mold. Mold will grow under the paint and the paint will peel.

Question: What makes molds grow in my home?
Answer: Mold enters your home as tiny spores. The spores need moisture to begin growing, digesting and destroying. Molds can grow on almost any surface, including; wood, ceiling tiles, wallpaper, paints, carpet, sheet rock, and insulation. The mold grows best when there is lots of moisture from a leaky roof, high humidity, or flood. You can control mold growth by keeping your home and it’s air dry.

Question: Can I be exposed to mold?
Answer: Yes, mold releases spores into the air. You can be exposed by breathing air containing mold spores. You can also be exposed through touching moldy items, disturbing the mold in any way, and accidental hand to mouth contact.

Question: Can’t I just use bleach and kill the mold myself?
Answer: No, bleach is corrosive and that fact is stated on the product label (not to mention the exposure hazards of dioxins). Yet the properties of chlorine bleach prevent it from “soaking into” wood-based building materials to get at the deeply embedded mycelia (roots) of mold. The object to killing mold is to kill its “roots”. Reputable mold remediation contractors use appropriate products that effectively kill mold infected wood products. Beware of any mold inspector, mold remediation contractor or other individual that recommends or uses chlorine bleach for mold clean up on wood-based building materials.

Question: Is it okay for me to be in the home during your treatment?
Answer: Yes. There is no problem with you staying in your home while we work; however, being down in the area we are treating is not allowed.
